School districts and county school offices are required to form geographical regions of sufficient size and scope to provide for all special education service needs of children residing within the region boundaries. Each region (Special Education Local Plan Area) developed a local plan describing how it would provide special education services. The Southwest SELPA serves 12 school districts and 5 charters in the development of:

• Coordination of Program Specialists

• Legal/Due Process Assistance
• Mental Health and Behavior Support

The Diagnostic Center, Southern California offers professional development on a variety of topics for educators, administrators, paraeducators, school psychologists, speech language pathologists, related service providers, and other school personnel.
